Small Business product build
If you are a big business and go to a high volume manufacturer, with technicians in lab coats, pens in top pocket etc...then that is fine but it often doesnt suit a very small business. This was exactly the problem I encountered. Then when I did find a smallish business to put my boards together their communication with me was not great and they didn't really get my requirements; 10% of the assembly came back faulty and on one occasion 100% had a substituted component that was incorect. I know they were building them as fast as possible but it wasnt the service I wanted.
That was some years ago and I now build all my own circuits including a small amount of SMT. I also make and fit bespoke heatsinks, a fit a couple of ad-hoc 'motherboards' for a design change.
As a very small business it is convenient to make products before committing to hundreds of PCBs being made and designs being finalised without having a good testing period. It is also very useful to have multiple versions of the early stage product to enble testing of various functions and design concurrently,
I can now offer a service to build low quantities of PCBs for small businesses or hobyists. I can get PCBs made (in the UK) but that would be to your design. (Gerber files etc needed).
